Default Kayak Question

Hey there,

I am looking to buy a kayak. I know nothing about them. What is the difference between "sit in" and "sit on"? What do I need to go fishing with the kayak? Life vest? Where do you get a roof rack? What do you need?

I'd truly appreciate all the information you can give to get me started and on my way. I will be on vacation on Long Beach Island in July and again in October and I really want to kayak and fish from it. I just have no idea what I need to go with the kayak and what kind of fishing equipment I need. What is on a fishing kayak?

I thank you in advance

Worry more about your saftey and saftey gear. As for now sure its 70 degrees but the water is barley 50. You spill and cant recover hypothermia will set in and you die.
A pfd (personal flotation device) aka a life jacket is a must ALL the time every day spring summer and fall.
Right now a dry suit is necessary paired with a pfd.

Sit on top it a sealed unit kayak with under the hull storage. Tou will sit higher above the water and usually only your arse gets wet.

A sit it.... well you sit in the kayak. Not the most ideal for fishing but it works. If water gets in and it will you will be sitting in a puddle and wet all day.

Google kayak fishing stuff. A web site thats packed with some great info.

Its no secret that bass are in the bay. Take a ride to some of the bay shore parks and look at the kayaks to get some better ideas and talk to the kayakers to see whats going on.
