It really does work, and well.
Leaves a scent smear they come looking for

White 1/8 oz. Roostertails with silver blades caught them the best for me back when they were last stocked in our area three years ago. Joe's Spinner Fly's also worked pretty good. Anything flashy should do the job.

I hate to say it, but Powerbait is extremely effective for stocked rainbows, as are nightcrawlers and other worms. Flashy spinners work well, especially when retrieved through swift current.

Lightbulb Re: Favorite Lures/Bait for Rainbows

My family would go camping near a deep quarry in central Pa. when I was a kid. Excellent for fishing. One day I happened upon an old timer sitting on the bank just crushing the trout, I asked him what he was using and he pointed to the block of Velveeta cheese. Remember, Velveeta is not cheese, it's a cheese food . So someone took this idea and changed the color and texture and Power Bait was born. Good luck getting Velveeta to stay on the hook in the streams, but in the lakes where I can deep drop it, is deadly.
