Fluking was good last year?

...Easily the slowest year we had since 2010!

I fish raritan bay from kayak at least 2 times - week. Rent a skiff and fish the hook-navy pier once a week. Easily slowest year for me in a long time.

But my range is limited on kayak, even though I launch from many locations from Staten Island to the hook.

Days there weren't even shorts, especially mid to end season

well this is all i needed to hear to disprove the 'every other year' theory. If so many guys had a good year 2013 and a bad year 2014, but we had a slow 2013 and had a great 2014 then maybe it's the 'spots' maybe the fluke congregate in different ways every other year and people just perceive it as bad fishing.

I fished Raraitan Bay nearly every weekend while on the tow boat. And yes 2014 was much poorer all around than 2013. Even the junk fish were in short supply.

Funny these THEORIES..... we cant even agree what's a good or bad year after the year is done.

We had an awesome year in 2014.
caught fish North and south. . seemed big schools of bait kept fish packed into a smaller area.
had tons of sand eels south, and lots of squid north.
short drifts staying on those pockets of fish put constant limits in the boat

I sailed limited fluke trips last season due to chasing cod all over east coast all summer.
However those trips for me at least produced a nice supply of bigger fluke, I agree overall numbers down but not complaining . I'll take another year like 2014 !:cool

Agreed that Raritan Bay was not the same post Sandy.... 2 or 3 big dredges sitting off of Keansburg for most of the spring and summer pumping sand up on the bay beaches... I wonder if that had something to do with it??

East of the Naval weapons peer and out in the ocean fishing was better. Was it better then 2013? I think the size of the fish were but not the quantity. And it also seemed that the Sea Robins were no place to be found... Not sure what's up with that...
