merino wool is the best, hands down. ive got a pair from clam that makes my feet sweat in my ice boots, and a few pairs of Rocky's that are merino wool, and are perfect temp with my insulated boots. I dont think any cotton or blended socks can compete with merino wool

I have had great success with the Smartwool extra heavy over the calf socks. Cost you about $25. Dicks or Ramsey should have them in stock.
