Default I don't know how to fish anymore

Went with my friend to Canister Reservoir. In 5 hours of fishing we bagged a pretty nice sized perch and a dink bass. OK, just not a good day we thought, but late in the morning we passed a boat where the guys claimed to have caught 4 walleye and 15 bass. We thought maybe they were full of it, but we saw them catch another two bass while we were near them.

OK, we were using plastics and jigs and noticed they were slinging Rapala type lures close to shore and retrieving them fairly quickly so we changed tactics and tried the same thing, and still nothing. Grrrr

.

Don't get Discouraged. Everybody has to run their own race.
Some people are amazingly skilled at fishing and can find bass in a parking lot puddle. Some people are just lucky and the fish find them.

Consider buying some live bait. On some bodies of water, almost EVERYBODY uses live bait of some kind.

I haven't used live bait in 15 years. I've caught on almost every body of water I've fished, and I've been skunked on just the same. I'm willing to fight and work for the fish and figure them out instead of sitting there waiting for them to come to me.

Firstly, you have to tie a “Rapala Knot” or similar loop knot, to get the true swimming action of a Rapala.

And, perhaps they weren't retrieving them that quickly.

A retrieval speed just where you feel the lure “working”. That’s usually pretty slowly & that’s when you get the hits.

Not too sure about the Bass, but the Walleyes won't be up on the shoreline this time of year. Vertical jigging on dropoffs or bottom structure is your best bet right now.

the Stear is now Closed for the season for boats due to low water level. that was the last day. No fall jig bite for them eyes this year. i guess we will just never know!
It is hard to go up there a couple times a year and do well. really gotta figure these places out by spending hours out there.
they were def jerkbaits.
i was out tht day close by and it was football season !

My guess is that.. they were probably using lipless or crank to bounce off the structure (tree, rocks, etc.) and getting the reaction bites if they were reeling back fast.
