I guess that's just another sign of the times. As a society's wealth gap increases, the general access to water and woods decreases. It's how rich people respond to the prospect of having to share resources with poorer people. You'll see this a lot in other countries. Hell, you'll see that a lot here. Next time you're in the Florida Keys, try walking around and fishing the shorelines and canals. You'll end up in the back of a Monroe County police car - if you don't get shot first by a panicked beach-house owner. Quote:

public parks (township property, county property, etc) cannot be closed to non-residents in NJ. private property is a different story, they can do whatever they want.

The biggest problem is parking your car and worst if you have a trailer. Theres lots of places to sneak onto GWL but where to park is another story

north end is in ny so i guess that nj rule doesnt fly... still sucks though considering how they try to push fishing licenses and everything that the only musky lake in southern ny doesnt have a public launch

OK just to clear things up without pissing anyone off I feel like a few things should be cleared up and I'm probably the only gwl resident here. 1st off the beach was NEVER a designated launch. 2nd the beach isn't off limits to non residents, it's by daily use permit, yes an obvious inconvenience. This has nothing to do with wealth and water frontage. 3rd I can think of NJ Lakes that are private and closed to outsiders. Pines Lake being one of them if I'm not mistaken. ACABTP, you complained and aired video of your mugging by one guy at a stocked trout hole. I was mugged one morning at the beach by 7 guys who layed out 3 carp rigs each. So if the inconvenience is troubling I'm sorry, thats how the town decided to handle the situation. Obviously it happened enough to pissing off the wrong people.

P.s. it bugs me that I have to pay to launch a small craft as well but the marinas rule this lake n all land is residential or commercial.

It amazes me that this surprises anyone. This is what happens when too many people learn about a good thing. You inevitably start getting the j-offs coming in, abusing the privilege, littering etc. Same reason Lee's county park isn't open to ice fishermen on Hopatcong. I'll give it another year or two until you're gonna have a lot tougher time finding a place get onto the ice on Pompton once the "No Parking" signs start going up because people are littering and hanging out en masse on the road. Not going to open the whole "spot burning" debate again, but this is why people just need to keep things to themselves sometimes.

Absolutely right. The biggest problem at the beach is that it's actually a small fishing area, mostly by the gazebo. You get big groups 6 or more guys that get there at 3 pm and monopolize the spot until after sundown. Now you could say first come first serve but that's not gonna fly for the locals that wanna use their lake but cant. Just wanna point out you can also fish by both bridges and the other gazebo by Lutheran church. The other gazebo is also the designated hand launch for yaks n canoes.
