Thumbs up Raritan river float 6/8/14:

Floated with the core group from CJST and John Jengo. It was more of an environmental float than anything else talking about future dam removals and clean ups. Lots of people fishin' the big river today from Duke Island Park all the way to Piscataway. I managed to get a few throws in along the way and hooked something very large by the Headgates but came unbuttoned. Talked to one guy who just released a 16" walleye and a few fishermen were pounding them in the fast runs below the falls.
The Headgates got their name because there used to be big gate that would open in the spring months to let the millions of shad move upriver. Saw a few lamprey spawning today also. Good float, saw 2 Bald Eagles also

Hey Andy, the kids and I floated from Neshanic to Duke Island as well on Sunday... They did good on the sunnies while I paddled. We also seen the eagle twice take off about 10 yds from us.. It was a nice trip
