![]() If you want to use mono backing go right ahead, it's not going to hurt, but it's completely unnecessary.

![]() I seem to remember guys saying that the super braids or whatever they are referred to nowadays, can crack the spool if tied directly.
But that was 15 years ago, maybe the lines have changed? Why chance it on a new reel? I'll go with the mono backing method.. |

![]() Bring it down to the shop..I will set it up for you ...Filling up the whole spool with braid , in my opinion, would just be a waste of money...Pete

![]() Backing is not really needed, as long as you do it right. Its very important to keep steady drag on the braid, especially that deep in the spool. Otherwise your line will cut into the braid and bury itself with a bigger fish. ( this problem is just as common as the slipping issue )
Depending on what your using it for...... you may be wasting half the spool if gong braid all of the way. 90% of the reels using 100% braid never get into that last 35-40% of line...ever. Really up to you.... but not needed. On a side note..... if anybody is looking for a 10000 Automatic 2 Speed ABU, I still have a few left. NEW!!! Never Used/spooled. $150 |

![]() This was a big problem with weak spools. Its not as big of an issue these days... most manufacturers have corrected this issue now.
