Factory twist plus your twist when spooling, pull it off and rewrap the line and you should be ok.

you have to roll the line on the spool... if you wind it on by hand it will put a twist in the line each time ending up with knots at the end...
what type of knot do you guys prefer with the flourocarbon leader... i switched over last year and had problems using the cinch knot... |

Thanks for all the input guys. My point was that there was defects in the line, a pull in the braid and little kinks. I've spooled braids and super lines in the past. I had no problems with the red 20lb HT. It was in black 30lb HT. I was thinking it was a defective batch.

What do you mean roll it on? How do you do that? I always wound it on by hand and never had any problems but maybe you have a better way.

check out the PR Bobbin knot for the braid to floro! use it on my tog rods for top shots..... 100% knot strength takes a little practice to tie but if I can tie it anybody can.

best thing you can do is take all the line off (maybe outside) and snap a weight on the end and rewind it using the tipup spool and u MUST feather the line w ur finger or angle it so it goes on evenly. Braid like powerpro is usually NOT a good idea on tipups cause if you get a good fish or a runner it will cut ur hands up easily, and its not very abrasive against the bottom of the hole on side running fish, dacron is much better for this. GWL u might have a bad batch of line there, I grabbed mine for the local bait shop and havent changed it, u can go a few years w the same tipup line. I use the smallest egg sinker (1/16) above a small swivel and then run 24"-30" of floro leader in 10# or 12# to a #4 or #2 mosquito hook. If ur fishing up high for trout etc. a tiny split shot will do, but I dont think a swivel has enuff weight to put a shiner or fathead on the bottom and keep him there IMO. I use the frabill tipups that are discs and have the foam insulator and the holes stay open and they work great, never any issues w freeze ups. I had a flag in the snowstorm sunday morning and they were covered in snow and still popped no problems
