That is a great bass. I'll put it in the 5+ pound range, too.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you gain access to Lake Gerard?

I've been told it's a privately-owned lake that's fiercely defended against outsiders attempting to fish its waters. Anyone attempting to gain access to it will be tresspassed by the police and find their car impounded.

Generally speaking once you get just over 20" a bass will weigh 5lbs. Then they pack on the pounds quickly. A true 24" LM bass would easily be over 7lbs in the summer, probably closer to 8.

Exactly what I was thinking, 20in is usually around a 5lber. My buddy caught a 24in Bass a couple years ago that he had officially weighed @ 7lb 4 oz. Bottom line that's a BIG bass, great catch!

I don't mean to be a downer but that bass is under 5 pounds. The size of the mouth gives it away plus its skinny for its length. Its is a very nice bass though, I would say 4-4.25.

nbask,

If you have a favorite rod and reel set up measure from the butt of the rod up to the top of the foam/cork handle or some other marking for reference (manufacturer name/rating) and take the measurement. When you forget a ruler, just lay the fish up against the rod for a rough estimate of how long it is.
