Unless you are going to use a levelwind, then it doesnt matter. With the spiral wrap the line is going to pile up on the side of the spool where the transition guides are. If you have to level the line on the spool it is much easier to push the line with your thumb than to pull it across. By having the guides transition opposite the handle you will never have to pull the line across the spool.

Nice to see a rod builder with an open mind on spiral wraps--with accurate info also. Most of my rods transition to the right--but I only use levelwinds.
