The Raritan wasn't dead, it just didn't have the diversity. It was pretty much smallmouths, sunfish, rock bass, crappie, carp and catfish, and that was it. Fifty fish days were pretty commonplace back then, too.

The past few years have produced some exciting developments, with shad and stripers running up, big schools of white perch, and walleye taking up residence. Not to mention the occasional tale of big toothy critters. Mark my words, it won't be long before the Raritan is mentioned in the same breath as the Delaware River.
