Capt. Rich is right on all accounts except for his last sentence. We didn't catch any bluefin on this trip. The pectoral fins on all of the BIGEYE we caught went passed the start of the dorsal fins because they were all, in fact, BIGEYE, including the fish in whatever photo he is talking about.
I guess next time I'll also have to takes photos of the striated livers we removed from all of those BIGEYE when we filleted them up. |

Not "the start of the dorsal fins", the start of the second dorsal, it's pretty clear in your photo, 2nd post.

Bigeye vs. Bluefin
Bigeye - Notice the long pectoral fins (longer than both bluefin and yellowfin but shorter than true albacore), they extend passed the beginning of the dorsal fins, especially noticeable in the fish on the left ![]() Bluefin - Short pectoral fin, does not reach the start of the dorsal fin ![]() |

Great now look at the photo I'm referencing, since I can't drag your photo here.

Capt. Rich have you read your PM?
I guess next time I catch bigeye I'll make sure to give you a call so you can personally come down and see with your own eyes rather than have you make inaccurate assessments just based upon pictures on the internet. |
