Default Lake Assunpink 7/29

Hit Assunpink this morning. Got on the lake at 5:00 am. We had a slow pick of bass on topwaters for the first 2 1/2 hours. We then switched to jigging and tried to find the crappies. They seemed reluctant to bite as we had none fishing all the usual spots. We did catch a few bass on the jigs though. I managed one extra fish on topwater before we left. We got off the lake at 9:15 am. We caught 12 bass in that time. Big fish was 2lbs.. Suprised we only caught bass while we were targeting crappies. We usually get a mixed bag when throwing the Mr. Twisters. Only one other boat this morning.Overall, an OK morning on the lake.

Been told there was some monster kitties in Assunpink. Lunkertaker has had them up to 10 lbs.. My dad caught a small one a couple weeks back on a rapala in there. Fished Stone Tavern for the first time a week ago and I liked it better than Assunpink bass wise. No bigger fish but more of them. Lots of small sunfish and shad being smashed by feeding bass around sunrise.

No there are 10 lb. bullheads in there . YES, there are channel cats in there. I am not a catfisherman but have heard the catfishing in Assunpink is very good. Stone Tavern and Rising Sun on the other hand, I have no idea.

Bullheads don't reach 10 lbs, channel cats do and plenty more. Both are plentiful in Assunpink with the bulls perhaps outnumbering the channels. Cats are not typically fished for there (well I have seen a few folks targeting them, but most are looking for LMB). Livers, dead fish, stink bait and well "primed" shrimp should work. Would look to the deeper end of the lake as the back is absolutely choked with weeds this time of year.

Was being very sarcastic about 10 lb. bullheads . But you can try fishing for 6 lb. crappies .
