Shimano baitrunner 6000D or the older 4500B series and dont look back. Haven't had luck with the new penn stuff lately. I'd stick with the Shimano for under $200bucks.

Hey Ant - Is it the LL models you've had issues with? I've read in a few places where people had issues with them when going from live line to main drag and the live line drag not full disengaging.

As I mentioned above, a friend of mine has two 6500s, they are not the LL models and he's caught several large tarpon on them with out any issues.

Yes Gerry i've seen it all from the LL feature, fit and finish, to crappy pot metal of the internals. The older SS models were the shit, the newer stuff just doesn't compare.

I've been very happy with my 8000D.....no issues after 2 seasons of stripers.

also recommend the baitrunner shimano, have a 4500 and 6500 and I use them for both snag and drop and the occasional surf fishing, they are built like tanks, not sure on the new ones but the older black and golds I have are indestructable
