The real answer is to ask the boat you're going to fish on...
As a general rule bottom fishing braid with a topshot is the preference. I have different setups for party and charter boats. With a party boat for stripers stick with straight mono its easier, causes less problems and is fine fish to with whether fishing clams, jigs, or bunker. When bunker/stripers cross lines with braid and mono its a bad ending. However some limited trips may say its ok, but again as a general rule, nix the braid for stripers on a PB.
