Default snapper pic

Caught 21 snappers to 33 lbs this year with my homemade corn meal bait on a #14 gold treble hook and 4 lb test line. If anybody wants a free snapper for pickup near Trenton, pm me your phone number and I will call you if I catch another one. Yesterday a big one bit off and stole my hook as I was trying to land it.

I guess I'm naïve and I don't know much about these turtles. But are these good to eat? Sorry for asking a stupid question, just curious.

Such a misleading thread title. Pretty disappointing on a Friday lol...

When you see snapper soup on a restaurant menu it's snapping turtle.

Hate to see beneficial animals killed for soup. They are an beneficial predator who do more good then you know(most meals are weakened or sick or dead fish). Don't hold its temper against it!

FYI: they generally won't snap underwater even if you tease them or step on them(which I have many times accidentally) unlike on land where they snap repeatedly.

How does that 4lb line not get cut on turtles that big?

The last one that I hooked bit off my hook when I was trying to beach it but I was very lucky this year. Last year I landed a 19 lber on 2 lb test but that line is not strong enough for big snappers.
