Default :( Fuel gauge problem

Last trip out I noticed the gauge flickering around, then nothing ,totally down on E then it came back to life, but is reading 3/4 tank when I just topped it off at the $3.92 gal fuel dock, and it is definitely full(gas spurts out the vent at that point). Was wondering if anyone had an issue like this before. Will be going to the dock tonight to trouble shoot, hope its a wire, and not the sending unit! As always feedback is much appreciated. One of these days hopefully we will be glitch free...

Does your engine have a digital gauge hook up?

I never trusted my old analog gauge and my original gas tank got messed up changing the corroded sending unit.

I have an etec so running icommand gauges now I found on ebay.

97 analog , proven to be spot on when we fully emptied it when we got it last year...how did your tank get messed up, maybe I can really! Try to avoid that.

Check your ground wires both hot and ground leading to the tank and the guage. If that's not it, try the sending unit in the tank... My bet is one of those 2 things is the culprit.

Wow.... No wonder it's not working.... Once you clean up the area and make the repair I would suggest you shoot the area with some CorrosionX. You can purchase it from most boat stores. Great stuff for protecting wire connections from corrosion.

Probably not a bad idea to use it on your other connections as well. A lot of people spray their entire motors with it once a season too.

When I ran an outboard I sprayed my motor down after every trip with C-56. That stuff is great for preventing corrosion and your mechanic will love you with how easily the engine comes apart if the need arrises.

Stripped out one of the nuts embedded in the tank .... couldn't get a good seal with the new sending unit.

Shouldn't be too bad to fix. ... happy you found your issue.
