Default Middlesex County- Personal Best LMB

weather conditions:windy and cool, slighly overcast
presentation used: 3 inch green pumpkin Kietech swing impact, 1/16 oz kietech super round jig head, 4 lb test, st croix ultralight spinning rod, quantum PT reel

water clarity: fairly clear, but with some algae growth on surface
time fished: last light (6:00-6:30)

After a crazy weekend and even more hectic first 2 days of work, it didn't take much for me to be convinced by the little man to head out and wet a line tonight be fore bed. We were only planning on a few quick casts since we didn't have his bait of choice- baby night crawlers- and had to use only artificials. So I tied on a Kietech 3" swing impact on both our ultralight outfits and hoped to maybe get lucky and catch a micro-bass or 2 while the mrs took a walk around the lake. We get to the spot, and one of his classmates and there mom is also walking the lake, and they decide to stop and watch us for a little bit (Thank God!)
Bubba makes a couple casts but he's having trouble figuring out how to make the jig "work" while I BS with the other kid's mom. Finally get around to throwing my line in the water and about 2 cranks into my 2nd cast, feel something HEAVY on the end of the line. At first I thought I snagged a branch or maybe even a turtle, but my mind raced to a couple weeks back where we lost a big bass on a sunny. All I saw at first was a wake being pushed ahead of something, and then this behemoth broke water and tail-walked about 5 feet from shore. I just about soiled my shorts at the sight of her, especially since I was using my ultralight outfit with some pretty old 4 lb test. Eased the pressure on her, and she litterally jumped onto shore, flopped once, and back into the 2-3 inch weed covered water right in front of us. I just about jumped into the lake to keep her from getting away, and soon enough lipped my personal best largemouth. Rough measurement had her at about 20-22 inches, but our tape measure was in the tacklebox at home (wasn't really expecting to catch anything tonite)
thank God somebody was there to snap a couple pictures, my wife was halfway around the lake when I caught her, and there was no way I could get a good self-portrait with this fish. Couple of quick pics, and some hooting an hollering from bubba and me, and she was back in the water, and off with a little splash of her tail....
Got dark really fast, and only one little short was caught after that, but clearly one of the highlights of my year...only thing that would have been better was if the little guy would have hooked her, but i am not sure he would have been able to handle a fish like this.....yet

That is an official Jersey Pig! Great job, especially on the 4#.

Nice fish man! Seems like the Largemouth fishing in the lakes around here is just starting to turn over. I landed my personal best last Saturday, so hopefully it's a good sign.
