Default Question about tackle cabinets...

Is PVC now an accepted material....for commercially built tackle cabinets...?? Only interior and not exposed to the sun. For those who have had work done or on newer boats, has anyone seen this occur?
My experience is PVC is not all that structurally durable...foamed pvc anyway. Just curious about what others have seen and or had done.

Thx.

Mine are fiberglass. PVC is awful and degrades from the sun over time and gets that black nasty crud on it you can’t seem to get off PVC yard furniture as well.

PVC is not UV stable. UV will attack most plastics and eat them up quickly. The down side is there is not a lot of UV stable plastics out there. Some of the sheet, rod, and tube distributors should have something with UV stabilizers in it that won't break the bank

The PVC is all enclosed within the unit. Thats the only good thing about that so UV wont break it down. I was also curious is PVC use was more commonplace in use now.

Thanks Gerry....It makes the deck and boat more functional for sure. The MFR did a nice job on the seat and cabinet...definitely had some pitfalls installing the dang thing.
