Thumbs up Raritan river 4/15:

Wilson and I hit Roberts St. falls for some low impact easy fishin', lookin for maybe a few stockies. Didn't get any, but Wilson got a walleye and I got a walleye and a smallmouth.
After a while we left there and went up to Dukes for about an hour, below the shale flats, nada.

We finally ended up in Somerset down by the 2nd 287 crossing trying to catch some shad to help out the Rutgers students doing a tagging study.
We didn't get any shad, nor did any of the students. The small parking lot by the canal was CRAZY, dog walkers, bike riders, KGB canal fishermen, you name it !

My bud and I threw striper lures further down river from somerset the other day. Outgoing tide, 1.5-2 hours past high tide.

Nothing. We had a fish flop 25 yards from us towards the shoreline but we think it was just a carp getting ready for spawn. They're in the bay, so they should be around.

I was thinking about throwing some lures again in a little bit. High tide is later in the early evening.

RR depends on water to be productive. Fishing the RR when its low with no rain obviously a pain in the ass. I hope all stockings and future biological tests are stopped. No need to waste time during a drought season.

What time were you guys there? I had my little guy there from about 3:30 to 4:30. I managed a dink SMB, he was learning how to cast his new spincast set-up I picked up for him earlier yesterday. Nice day out there.

When solo I got out as early as I can, preferably before sunrise. Yesterday was a family day, I was able to sneak an hour in for the afternoon so I'll take it when I can get it!

Thumbs up Re: Raritan river 4/15:

Walleye from South Bound Brook.

There are walleye from Somerset to Bound Brook. I had my doubts at first but I'm seeing and hearing more.
