Talking first day out - totally new to fishing !

hey everyone - made an account to hopefully connect a little more with the community and learn from you guys who've had lots of experience going out.

like the title says, i just started fishing for the first time since i was a kid and this week i've been out nearly every morning before work haha
i guess you could say im enjoying it

still havent had any luck, but im looking forward to building experience and finally getting that first catch. honestly, being outside for a few hours every day is just a great feeling and i cant believe i didnt just pick this up years ago.

So far I've tried a few spots going about a mile and a half up saddle river from where it splits into sprout brook, and the pond over at otto c pehle. maybe i need to be going more north to get solid bites.

anyway, enjoying it so far and looking forward to contributing often to the forums - hopefully with a few fish to brag about haha

thanks in advance and happy goings!

p.s. no fish but i did make a new friend

thanks guys!

I picked it back up after a looong hiatus. I was getting skunked about every time I went out as well (and starting to get frustrated). I still get skunked somewhat often, but Hang in there and you'll start figuring it out. What lures to use at what times and where so that you can get "something" If you don't need to catch a bass and just want to boost some confidence, a spinner or tiny wake/wobble bait (Rebel Creekhopper) will definitely get you some panfish.

Thumbs up Re: first day out - totally new to fishing !

Welcome to the site dude! Throw some small spinners and Rapalas in there. You’ll find the fish eventually. If all else fails there’s always worms. Everything eats worms. Good luck and let us know how you do! TIGHT LINEZ!!!

Welcome. Trout magnets will get you some stockies. Look for some easy access spots like bridges and then walk up or down stream fr9m there. There are some wild browns in the saddle river but you will have to work for them.

The end goal is hopefully trout, but yeah pretty much everything! Lol
I’m loving finding out theres so many cool local areas
Water was crystal clear, but i didnt see too much action in the water, at least in the Paramus area
I’ve heard better things from further upstream, ho-ho-kus area, eventually ill give it a whirl
