end of season help
This is the first year i have ever owned a boat and could use a little help on end of the year stuff!!
First off i don't have a truck so i didn't bother to get a trailer so the boat will be hauled by someone else more than likely a marina, so any suggestions that would be great and blocked in my yard so i can do the bottom paint and other maintenance. Second i dont know how the process of winterizing works so though it best to have someone else do it this year and i can learn as more time goes on so that bring first problem i need a marina that will come haul my boat winterize it then block it at my house. Third shrink wrapping i don't know if it is a necessity but it looks nice keeps water out and since it will be in my front yard it will have to look decent or the wife will be yelling! hahaha.. so the problem is can i get some one to come to my house to do this or will i have to find a marina to do all three. If there is a way that this can be done in steps that would be fine too. Like if i could get the boat to my house and have someone come and winterize it in my yard, then another guy come shrink wrap it. that would prob be ideal as i could do some work on it in the yard for a few weeks then get it wrapped as it started to get real cold like in dec. thanks for all and any help |

Re: end of season help
Not sure if any marina will bring and block boat in your yard. Perhaps multiple guys like: trailer haulers and handymen?
Where do you live? If up north contact me? The Hackensack Yacht Club well protected up the Hack near Rte 80 has all this stuff. You can bring in outsiders and do anything(legal) you'd like there. I've been a member there for 3 years. They specialize in people wintering there, and spending the season elsewhere. Another is Sea Venture Marine in Highlands (near clam hut) which used to be Sea Tow's base.

Re: end of season help
How big is your boat, what engine/s
When are you pulling it I know of a hauler , and know a few wrappers, Winterizing is easy... And recommend learning to do it... But the choice is yours I'll be back on later |

Re: end of season help
Like Dfish said, let us know what type of engine you have and once we know that we can assist further.
Winterization is pretty straight forward if you are fairly handy. Here is a write up I did on the subject a while back WINTERIZING YOUR BOAT As much as I don’t like thinking about it it’s getting to be that time of year where we need to start thinking about storing the boat for the winter. Here are some tips that may help you. Winterizing is not that difficult and if you do it yourself you know it’s done right and you will be ready for the spring… OUTBOARDS : Not much to do on outboards. You want to make certain you do the following things at a minimum…. Fog the engine, change the fluid in the gear case, flush the engine with fresh water and get some antifreeze in the engine block and treat your left over fuel with stabilizer.
shaft due to corrosion and make it very difficult to get the prop off. - Take batteries out and store inside and charge them occasionally a battery that is not charged is subject to damaged from the cold. - WD40 all linkage - If you have any holding tanks drain them and put some of the pink RV type anti freeze in them. - If you have any sea cocks keep them open over the winter just in case there is water in them that could freeze up and cause damage
NOW FOR INBOARDS AND I/Os
- In the case of changing the drive fluid on and I/O is the same procedure as the outboard.
A Word of Caution …
