Re: Klg 2/25
Those are nice trout but let me give you a bit of advice: if you plan on releasing them, you don't need to grip them so tight for the pic. Pic is nice but releasing them is more important. You can also try to hold them in - or partially in - the water as well which places less stress on them.
This is one of my wild browns form last weekend. You try to support them and don't squeeze them. They don't always cooperate and many will escape but thats ok. Its not like you haven't taken a trout pic before. Let it swim away to fight another day.

Re: Klg 2/25
Oh please with the shit about handling fish, trout are not fine china like everyone thinks. These fish are quickly fought and taken out of the water with a wet hand and tossed back unlike a long fight on a whippy fly rod that that stresses the fish. They survive long rides in trucks rough handling from stockers, tossed of bridges and a endless barage of herons taken pokes at them.

Quote:
I run down to the river and gently place the net in the water and released the fish out of the net. The guy on the truck comes running down to me with another net of fish and sez "do it like this". He puts the net over his shoulder and launches the fish catapult style 20 feet in the air and into the water. (well most of them made the water!) That's how you do it from now on he said with a stern look on his face.

Re: Klg 2/25
So is that the idea??Is that what are youth should learn??As if its not painfully evident in everything else in this time and age?
We'll just treat everything, including the fish we love to catch and eat like an endless resource??As long as there are hatcheries, why not?It seems to work on a worldwide scale in our oceans??Without regulations, rules, and general continued awareness, there is no such thing as an endless resource... Everyone has there own opinoin on fish handling, no matter what the species...Whos to say who is rite?? Maybe science, studies and overall awareness of manymany generations of fisherman....FISHERMEN- not fly fisherman or spin fisherman but just fisherman... The bottom line is , if a fish is going to be returned, why not handle it better than you would a fish that you are gonna keep??Increase its odds of survival, no matter what the species is...LM bass are one of the hardiest species in fresh water and many tounaments are always improving fish haandling , storage and mortality rates...I think major league fishing is a gr8 format, because all leagal size fish count and their immediatly returned.... Trout are def more sensitve than bass so why not handle them like they are?? everyones opinion is rite on many levels but science is and research don't lie...

If I was gonna keep a fish I'd throw it in the dirt behind me,bleed it then jam a stringer thru its jaw but I let these ones go. |

Re: Klg 2/25
I think they said they are stocking 577,000 trout in the next few months.
I have fished with Shucker many a time, the fish swim away just fine, he cares more about fish than most do. I very rarely even see him use a treble hook in freshwater, 90 percent of the time it is a single hook. You can't go by the photos.
