backwater bassin @ mercer park 3/14/12
Lurking for a while and figured I'd post- so here goes:
Unseasonably warm and I figured I'd check out Mercer Park. I mountain bike there all the time but never fished there. Heard stories of bass, pickerel & muskies and after getting skunked on the big D Monday I decided to give it a shot. Went to the boathouse side of the park and worked my way down a mountain bike trail to a some nice shallow backwater. Apparently it was holding tons of fish! After the second cast I could see fish following the lure. Initially got several hits and misses and finally converted... bass country! All in all I got 13 bass! My best bass day ever. Most of which were pretty small but fun to fight. Had tons of hits and lost several right at the shore - they were really aggressive today. I did get one nice one that put up an extra solid fight. Lures: used an orange rapala to get one then switched to a larger sized brown trout rooster tail. probably could have thrown nearly anything in based on how active they were. Beautiful day to be on the water - saw a bald eagle, several turtles and only lost one lure! |

Great day. did they ever fix that Goose problem at Mercer? They used to be real thick around the Boat Ramp.

Thank you!
As for the geese- they don't see as thick as they use to be. But I always do see some when I ride by that area (& their, um, residuals). |
