potomac river blue cats 3/19/24

Home safe & sound from our trip with Miss Susie Charters .Big congrats to Devon aka species slayer who landed species #60 ( blue cat) & #61 (white cat) & was hi-hook on the blue cats. Didn't get any giants with the biggest fish pushing 10lbs or so but lots of #bites to bad me & Vinnie suck 😄 we ended up killing 35 which the crew said is slow but par for us we had high winds, cold front & poop conditions. Also had bald eagles scooping racks up all day even freedom falcons want a free meal 😄
Super big thanks to sportfishingusa for being charter Master and putting it all together hopefully the Amish were gentle with you & you found a soda. Hopefully species #63 will be coming this summer once we find a spadefishery.

Dev is on a tear with the species. Great trip despite the wacky weather. I miss those Blue Cats.

yeah andy they are apparently super invasive gluttons crew said they are 10000x worse than snakeheads can ever be. They found 17 blue claws in a 20lb stomach last week, oysters, clams, eels, stripers, perch, bass, snakeheads, shad, panfish, birds, other catfish you name it they eat it, kinda like an uglier me gonna eat em tonight guys are booked 2 boats 2 trips a day all spring people down their say they are delicious

Yes, kill them all. They are very saltwater tolerant and are starting to get through the Chesapeake Canal. They will be way worse than flatheads or snakeheads if they establish themselves in the Delaware.

Well I was not sure what to expect from them blue cats but them good ole southern boys from Miss Susie Charters weren't pulling this Yankees leg. Guinness battered blue cat incredible! I just trimmed away anything that looked a little to red got that grease hotter than hell & tossed them jawns in!
I tried a small channel from the D during pandemic in 2020 & almost vomited but these Potomac kittys were sweet & mild. If you don't believe me ask Devon she actually has class 🙂

Those “jawns” look delicious (that’s a Philly boy right there, boyeeeeeeeeee). Agree 100% on Delaware channels, I may have cooked it wrong but it tasted like garbage the one time I tried it
