Default Pompton/Potash

Decided to avoid the weekend insanity at Monksville and took the boat to Pompton Lake today. Put in at the Potash lake ramp and made a beeline to the main lake right off Sunnybank Park. Decided to have lunch before we wet our lines, so we didn't put a line in the water until about 2:00. While we were eating we chatted up narby angler who hooked into a nice bass while we were talking. He said it was his third of the day, but he had a 6 am start. I took notice that he hooked it pretty close to shore.

So we started hitting the shore line ourselves.I was soon into a muscular bass that was about 3 lbs. I know some people say LMB don't give much of a fight, but this guy had no interest whatsoever in seeing the insides of the boat. It made several drag peeling runs. After the C & R we drifted down to the dam with nothing else to show for it.

Then we headed back up lake and hit the bridge and island and nada. Now near 4:00, we decided to make our way back toward the Potash launch. Not wanting to waste any water, I trolled the length of the no wake section and stirred up nothing.

Back to Potash, we fished around that old pump structure on the eastern shore and I hooked into what I thought was a monster. I didn't see the fish for quite a while and it kept making deep runs and was dragging my pretty heavy boat around, so I thought perhaps I had a carp on and was surprised to land a bass that was only a bit over 2 lbs. I don't know what it is about the bass there, perhaps those PCBs make mutant LMB.

We fished for another hour and nothing. But I'll take two good fighting fish over a few hours any time.

I would've thought carp too, I always see groups of them hanging around those structures. Glad to hear you LANDED some nice ones, the big ones in there sure know how to jump and throw a hook! Nice report B.
