Default How is ice near Dows?

Hey everybody. I only get out on the ice once or twice a year and generally I just hit Dow’s for shiners and then access the ice from there. It’s about a 40 minute drive for me and I have off on Monday and would like to get out but thought I Would check here first to see if anyone knew how the ice was over there. My other spot is Budd lake so any intel on that ice would be much appreciated. If anyone else is off Monday and wants to hit up the hard water shoot me a PM. Ice fishing is always better with company and it would lessen my wife’s anxiety knowing I wasn’t alone (she is one of those people that thinks ice is unsafe no matter how thick). Thanks everyone, tight lines!

Dan

You can roam around the lake like a Nomad if you choose. Plenty of ice out there just be safe anyway. The coves produce the most fish and excitement this time of year. Good luck man! Let us know how you do.

Got bait at Dows this morning. Plenty of people fishing the coves there, outside the shop. Always be careful and test though. I went to Woodport and one guy hit a soft spot and got wet up to his knee. TD

I was at dows the other day and the ice is good to go there and the state park is good as well if you go out on the main lake take a spud bar and check as you go. the ice in the north section of the lake where i was today had 5" of black ice a small layer of water and 3" of white ice any where the snow is thick there is more water that has not froze yet you can put a spud through it and there is some black ice under that. you will need good waterproof boots as you will likely get your feet wet just walking around. As for budd lake fast eddie was out there not to long ago going after a different type of slime dart you might want to pm him for the ice info there. be safe and flaggggggggggggg up.
