Thumbs up N/b 5/29:

Went in the back way to Duke Island Park falls and worked the falls and downstream a bit, I wasn't feeling it, water was still off quite a bit, I was looking for trout so I kinda wanted water that was a little bit clearer, the muddy color was probably from the Lamington, the last river to clear up. Left there and went to Peapack-Gladstone, the stretch behind the ball field, bingo, gin clear water, and I was the only one there. Got a stockie brown on my third cast and saw a few other trout jump. Went down to the bridge and thought I could pull a few out of there but only had follows, saw no less then four nice trout under the bridge, they were kinda skittish. Went down a bit further to the posted signs, ya know, the one on the same tree as the stocking sign and got a few more, beat that stretch up pretty fast so I went up to Natirar, water was pretty low and they were setting up for an event so I didn't stick around. Headed for home to get things started around here, not too bad, got out for a few hours and got a few trout.

I spoke to three young men fishing Natirar yesterday. They were catching small smallmouths on spinners. There was a wine festival there. I fished the North Branch and got four small brook trout 11"-12" on butterworms. The fish were almost black leading me to believe they have been in there a while. One had that Raritan River fungus on it.
