Default 3.25 lb brown bullhead pic

I caught and released a 3.25 lb brown bullhead on my homemade corn meal bait in the Millstone River this week. I wanted to weight it on a certified scale and enter it in the NJ Skillful Angler Recognition Program, but I don't know where there is a certified scale between the Millstone River and Trenton. The last time that I tried that, the first 4 stores said no. Then the manager of the fifth store wouldn't sign the form.

That really sucks. I hope you still have the bullhead.
Here's what the NJDEP says about finding a certified scale:

Quote:
To locate a certified scale, the Ne
w Jersey Division of Weights and
Measures [Herbert Segal, (732)
815-4853] suggests contacting these
types of establishments:
Recommended sources

Warehouse with a shipping department

Junk yard

Scrap metal recycler

Marina with party /
charter boat fishing
Possible sources:

Bait and tackle shop

Sporting goods store

Local deli, butcher, grocer

Contact your county office of weights and measures

You can get an SAA for C&R too with no scale needed. Just a pic with a ruler or tape measure. 14" for bullhead. The whole tape measure thing is a bit too much IMO. I think a picture should be enough. Does it really matter if a pike is 34" instead of 35" or bass 20" instead of 21"? Still a damn fine fish!

I guess you could do it that way, but if it's already dead, it kind of takes away the point entering it as a catch-and-release. They may not accept it if it looks dead.

The issue I had with the Catch & Release Skillful Angler Award is not only do they want a picture of the fish next to a ruler, but they also want a picture of the fish with you at the location it was caught.

I caught a 24-inch Chain Pickerel earlier this summer. I took a picture of it next to a ruler and released it only to find out I needed another picture of it with me at the location it was caught. And I had to specify the pond I caught it in.

That's too much disclosure for my tastes.

Holding up a big bass by the lip near water is all you needed a few years ago. Now its everything except your first born. Its paper award, not a nobel prize.

Anybody ever take a selfie with a big fish. It didn't work for me. I think it's impossible. If you fish alone, you can't win a New Jersey Skillful Angler Catch and Release Recognition Award because of the new picture of the angler and fish requirement.

It's easy to take a photo with a big fish when you are by yourself. All you need is a photo timer app on your smart phone. I don't see the point in registering for these awards though.

we get it; you don't like the OP because he kills carp. the angler award may not be your cup of tea, but that's the great thing about fishing: to each their own.
