Default Walleye FYI

Just received this angler report:

On the Passaic River,......"Over the passed 3 years or so, we have landed about 10 Walleye. They have been caught between Little Falls and Wallington (tidal section!). They have measured between 18"-26". All fish looked healthy."

I responded: "We stock walleyes in Greenwood Lake, Monksville Reservoir, and Canistear Reservoir. As the water from all of these waterbodies flows to the Passaic River, and as walleyes are highly migratory, they could
have swam downstream. That is the case with the Raritan River. We never stocked walleyes there, but they made their way from the Delaware River, through the Delaware & Raritan Canal.

In both the Delaware, and Raritan Rivers,…………………walleyes are found in the freshwater tidal section.

Another possibility is that anglers could’ve stocked them, illegally.

In any event, this is an interesting development. Thank you for the report, and please keep me apprised of any future catches."

Interesting! I've personally witnessed one being caught myself. Measured 10-12 inches and looked good. That was a long time ago though......

I know alot of fish traveled with the water flow from hurricane Irene. I witnessed alot of LH fish end up in muscanetcong lake, including alot of hybrids. Its amazing how far they can travel with enough water to make it into the raritan from the big D.........
