Default Raritan River 5/31, D&R Canal 6/1

Fished the river yesterday at the riffle in Manville down to the Finderne Ave bridge with Gatto1227. Water was pretty murky, as it has been for the last 2 weeks and we didnt have much action until we got to the riffle. After about an hour of casting, I hooked up with a decent 15 or so inch smallie who gave me a nice fight with several jumps on a husky jerk 12. Took a photo, released him and on the very next cast I get bit about 5ft away from me, standing in the edge of the hole by a small striper about a foot long or so! This was a nice little surprise, its good to see stripers making their way up the river and hitting lures regardless of size. Snapped a pic, released him and ended up getting another smallie shortly after this that went about 12 inches. It was a fun day until I slipped on a rock on the way out and filled my waders lol.

Fast forward to today and I met Gatto1227 down on the canal path to try out a few Musky lures I just got in the mail. He had already caught a couple decent sized Pickerel by the time I got there, so we walked the opposite direction of where he already fished. I threw my new magic maker for a few casts to get used to the action, then I switched to a drifter believer and hooked a greedy little largemouth that was hardly bigger then the lure within 3 casts, steel leader and all. Finished up throwing a couple bucktails on the way back to the truck with no takers. I can't complain though, I just wanted to test out my new lures for a few casts and I ended up catching something. Hopefully thats a good sign lol.

Anyway, pics should be up shortly. Gatto has them, I gotta get him to post em' up.

Nice!! Good looking pickerel. I've got a few this season but nothing good, all dinks.

Yea, that was us. I saw your truck parked as we were packing up, black f-150 with the fish skeleton on the rear window. I was probably busy falling in the water as you were pulling up lol.
