Shimano Terez TZC66XH
So, I got home from work today and found a long shipping tube from Cabelas leaning against the garage. When I was out in Michigan last weekend, my Mom overheard me talking to my brother last weekend about tuna fishing and decided to call cabelas and buy me a new tuna stick.
Damn....looks more like a fluke pool, surprised at how slender the rod is. So...I'm trying to decide what reel to put on it. Either an Avet ex 50, which I think will be to much reel, as its setup with 80lb, or a Daiwa SLT20, which is pretty much equivalent spec and size to a Penn 30vsx. Can't afford to buy a new reel right now. Any thoughts?

I suggest you mention to your Mom that you need a new reel 😃

Have you mentioned anything about car trouble? You know "in for a penny in for a pound".

Re: Shimano Terez TZC66XH
Mom might be 80, but she's sharp as a tack, don't think I could swing that one past her....but maybe...my reels need to be respooled by Basil, but it's going to cost...

Re: Shimano Terez TZC66XH
so, other than suggestions on how to take advantage of the generosity of my mother, I didn't get any thoughts on matching a reel to this rod.
Anyone have an opinion on the rod, not its origins? thanks.

Re: Shimano Terez TZC66XH
I can't find the specs for the Daiwa, I've serviced one, but can't compare the weight/drag to the Avet. Weight wise, the Daiwa would probably be a better fit for that rod.
For around 100-150bucks you can pick up a Penn 113H or 114H and will serve you just fine. Or for under 300 get an Avet HX 5/2 which would be perfect for that rod.

Re: Shimano Terez TZC66XH
If you already own the Daiwa and the Avet, both would be fine. The Daiwa is about a good 10oz lighter compared to the EW50 at 63oz and the EWX50 at 67oz. The Avet has the Daiwa beat on the drag though. The Avet is rated for around 50lbs of drag at strike. That might be a mute point depending on the line you have them spooled with.

Re: Shimano Terez TZC66XH
And the Penn's are ole school stand by star drag chunking reels I know a ton of guys use. They are cheap and get the job done when you're on a budget.
