I'm not going to knock the black widow (as I don't own one), but I can vouch for the incredible quality and value you will get from Kevin Bogan. You should treat yourself to one of his rods - he has outfitted Mushin Sportfishing for years - everything from light saltwater spinning rods to our 130 bent butts for giants. I have always been impressed with his matter-of-fact, no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is approach. He won't steer you wrong.

I don't know anything about the Black Widow rod, but I can tell you that my new Fish Poison Blackfish rod is essentially perfect in every way. Kevin was a pleasure to deal with as well. I am DEFINITELY going to be purchasing another of his rods.

I have both well more then both. I have the 200C and 3 Fish poison's 2 custom and one just his general one he makes. For deep drops and heavy oz days i like the fish poison rods. Like when you are using 12oz and up. For anything from 10oz down my go to is the Jigging world 200C. IMO with the lighter weight i get a better feel and hook set with the 200c. Plus the rod is just about impossible to break. If i had to choose one rod between them all I have to say id go with the Jigging World 200c.

Instead of the BW, you might want to consider the new Shogun rod, it was designed for exactly what you're looking to do... Its my goto fluke/seabass/porgy rod. The BW 200 is my goto blackfish and offshore seabass/cod rod. The action in comparison to the weight of the rod is hard to beat, goes for all the JW rods.

15/30 for bucktails heavier than that to 12 OZ
