Default I love mondays

Got out on a local lake after work today for about 2 hours and caught my first ever brook trout. After catching a few on rooster tails, I was feeling confident enough to switch to the fly rod and I caught a few more on olive wooly buggers. Those fish were also my first fish on a fly rod which I picked up for the first time this year. Most fish were between 8-12 inches, but I did get one that was about 20 or so inches that I lost right at my feet. Looked like a large trout of some sort but I'm not very good with freshwater fish identification. It had an orange looking belly if that helps identify it. Still pretty bummed I couldn't land it but all in all a great start to 2014. BTW the lake was one of the few nj lakes that you can fish in the pre season for anyone who was wondering.

Congratulations on your "brook trout". You were right about two things. First, you are not very good at identifying freshwater fish. Second, that was your first "brown trout". Keep fishing. You'll get it figured out.

Oh well not knowing what I caught is better than nothing at all haha. The sign at the lake said they stocked brook trout so I just assumed. Now I just need to get my first bass and it will be a successful spring as far as I'm concerned.

Sweet...way to open up your year. And congrats on the first flyrod fish being a trout. My one and only "fish" on a fly rod was a maple leaf about 15 feet above me! But at least I landed it! HA!. That thing has been sittin in my garage ever since...I just don't get it! I aint got the patience for it I think.....my wife would probably agree.

Nicely Done dude!

Well if you ever decide to take it off the rack in the garage, catching freshly stocked trout was a nice easy way to get the first one. Those idiots would hit anything you throw at them haha.
