Default Going to try the Passaic in East Hanover

I work in Roseland and drive over the Passaic most days. I am thinking of giving it a shot at Lunchtime or after work.

I am SaltWater guy but the fresh water is very tempting. Any tips? Or better yet, meet me over there and lunch from Sorrento's is on me.

Never fished that area, but would be happy to meet you on Thursday. Heading out later today to help a newbie put his new gear together. So today is out.

I've fished that stretch from about where 280 crosses the Passaic in Roseland upwards for a mile or two. A boat would help but even us bank-beaters can get to some fish. I caught a bunch of small stuff in there last year including some crappie, I believe. Got sawed off by a monster pike a few weeks ago that was so close to shore, he almost splashed me. If you catch one with a barely-used Rapala CD3 in his gullet, that would be the one!

Good luck!

Bank beaters can get to most of the fish if you are in good shape and willing to slog through some muddy canals and troughs(plus a plethora of poison ivy and mosquitos). Its brutal back there outside the major towns but with all the snags, yakers face major hurdles as well. I spent most of last summer literally hacking my way along the river(weeds were 7-8 feet high no kidding) and it payed off well. Go where others aren't willing and you'll be rewarded
