Thumbs up 5/16 Candlewood Lake

Since my guy at Lake Champlain is no longer an option, and no other strictly bass fishing guides are apparent in the area, I have been looking around for some new waters to fill the void. I had heard a lot about Candlewood recently, all of it good. So i did some research online, booked a guide for the day, and made the two and a half hour drive up this morning to be on the water by six.

In short, this lake is a smallmouth fisherman's paradise. I caught about a dozen smallmouths between 12 and 20 inches, all strong fighters, all healthy looking fish. A wacky-rigged senko on either a shaky head worm or a drop shot rig was the hot setup, but the big fish of the day came early in the morning when a four pounder slammed a topwater spook right next to the boat! In addition, I caught two quality largemouths, a few slammer rock bass, and the biggest crappie I have caught in a while.

I was very impressed with the lake, and also with my NS guide for the day. If anyone is interested in fishing Candlewood for some beast smallies, PM me and I'll send you his info. I highly recommend him.

Pics and video to follow. Stay tuned!

Sweet report! I have never been to Candlewood, but it is on my short list, along with the Susky. Can't wait to see the video.

Read in the Bass magazine as one of top 5 lakes in the country where you can catch both 4+ lb LM & SM.
