Default Killer Gills

I hit the super-secret quarry pond to try and hook a lunker bass. I didn't get a lunker, but I got 2 decent LMB's and some HUGE gills. I measured one gill at 9 inches and I had caught two before that one that were much bigger. Not bad action for an hour or so. Probably caught over 10 fish. All these fish came out of deep water, 25 feet or more just off the bottom. When I hit this place the last time in the summer, all the fish were shallow. I'm taking it the deeper water is probably warmer than the surface water with all the chilly nights.
