Default PA trout and Raritan Carp

3-day weekend thanks to MLK.

Did well trout in PA again. Sorta. one of those Good Luck/Bad Luck days where the fish are nailing but unlucky in terms of hookups and landing fish.

--
Monday decided to take a break from trout fishing and sought out the wonders of the raritan river.

Was tossing around a 5-6 inch jerkbait all day hoping for pretty much anything. Nothing bit.
Turns out i get the "crème de la crème" of the raritan... or rather, "carp de la crème"?

Snagged this on the tail fin. Got it out of the current and into an eddie where I pulled it in slowly on 6 lb line.

The belly and girth on this thing was ridiculous! Was about 28 inches.
I need to target these more often. There's bigger ones than this in the same waters. Seeing the belly on this thing, and where I caught it, makes me believe they're still actively feeding in the middle of winter.

Lol... thats one fat SOB of a carp! Winter feedback in full effect plus a belly full of huevos. Bet that got your heat thumpin'! Nice job landing it...

I think I recognize that spot in the third picture, is that close to the spot I PM’d you a while back? If so I am suprised I didn’t see you as I also did some trout fishing on MLK day at that very spot. I didn’t have nearly as much luck as you, only one rainbow for me caught further downstream near confluence with the big D.

That is a fatty of a carp, not too bad for an accidental catch
