Default New / Farrington fish kill

Hi everyone, new to the site! I do a majority of my fishing in the middlesex county area, with an occasional trip up to the passaic river. This morning I went to Farrington Lake for pike. I tried a few different spots from Davidsons Mill Rd up to Lake View Day Camp, with no luck of course but that's a different subject. What I did see though was a lot of dead bluegills and crappies, some floating on the top and others already at the bottom. At the last spot I tried there was a decent catfish, dead along the shore. It had some weird shit growing on its face. Attached photo.

Smarrington is my home waters, I hope its not bad. I took a drive by the lake a few days ago and the water actually looked very clear, compared to its usual appearance. lots of guys fishing on the bridge.

This happens from time to time at Farrington, I contacted F+W a few years ago and they said this was not unusual, they said it has to due with rapid temperature change and oxygen levels ! It sure can be disturbing to witness !

That’s normal to see this time of year. Oxygen levels and water temperature are at their lowest at the end of the winter.

Fished farrington yesterday, a few crappie, bass and pickerel. Biggest bass about 2lb most others 12 inch or less. Nice to get out there though. Using the launch by church lane is sketchy at best. All fish caught on black beetle spin or 6 yellow inch gulps. I wish gulp was a bit cheaper or just a bit hardier.
