Default Question batteries in or batteries out

I have a charging system on my boat I have a starter battery an a house battery should I take them out for the winter I usually just keep them plugged in and charging through the winter.:confused.

Technically if they are kept charged you won't have an issue. That being said, I take mine out every season.

The five minutes it takes to pull them and keep them in the garage out of sub freezing temps gives me peace of mind. Being doing it this way forever and never had batt issues.

i always take mine out and store them somewhere warm. Once a month I will throw a charge on them

I have kept mine in an unheated and detached garage for 27 years.

I have an automatic battery charger set to low 2 Amp on a household timer running only 15 minutes per day. It's a technique in decade #3 of use now.

Never boiled out a battery or had a between season failure. But I also routinely replace mine after 3 seasons to avoid ever having problems. And (KNOCK ON WOOD) I have. I confirmed on sea tow experiences that most all batteries that have weak or wont hold much of a charge are in year 4. And a rare rare year 5 failure.

Doing that also will half the life of your built in charger running from November to May. I might add a very expensive built in marine charger too.

You could do that. But the likely extra cost worth the ease?

Took mine out every year and the left them in. Failed on remembering to charge them. Learnex the hard way. No charge battery freezes. Cracked the case of a one year battery. Needless to say both batteries sitting on 2 x 4 s on me cellar floor.u
