Default High Point SP..Sawmill Lake

Went camping with the younger ones there this weekend.

The lake (pond) was recently stocked and gave it a go...a few hookups...nothing for the trout

Saving grace...lots of bluegill, pumkinseeds, and samller panfish ready to take the small flies on the 2 wt fly rod. Yeah, kids having a ball figuring how to reel them in on a first experience on the FLY..gotta a couple of converts that need more experience. Catching a small pan fish "Fly Style" and having the kids wanting to learn the "art"......priceless

A great place to take the younger ones to camp....look out for the bears!

This area also features the upper reaches of the Flattie, use to nail some nice fish here many moons ago! Wonder if they still stock the brook in that area?
Lakes always loaded with trout , you could catch 50 a day years back!
Nice area !!

Caught my very first native speckled trout in that stretch of the flat. Use to hike from Parker Brook in Stokes up to H.P.S.P. In pursuit of those little buggers. Back in the day there were native grouse you would hear beating their wings. That's a sound I have not heard in a long time.

I have not been there before, first time, the pond seemed to be choked with weeds this early in the season so later may be a challenge for folks w/a boat other than a canoe. That said, appeared like a bass kinda lake?

Saw a few risers in the middle and a few hooking up on the trout at the dam...watch out for the snakes...we tried power bait fished off the bottom so other patterns may work better due to weeds which I could see suspended even near the dam?

The hikes, views at the tops of the High Point, and the fishing possibilities make this a great location...pack the camping gear and give it a try
