I think the best is still putting a piece of aluminum angle on the bed edge.
then bolting trex to it.
then installing plastic flush mount rod holders .
can put 2 or three staggered rows depending on how many rods you want to carry

simaler to this

Definitely the concept I'm looking to copy. Although I need it dropped below the bed rails so cover will fit.

you need t just about bend the truck bed liner to get them tight enough to hold the rods without slipping
Dan,

Do you have the "Inshore" version or the heavier "Offshore"?

I just lay a 4' piece of 6"x 6" across the bottom up against the back of the bed and they don't slip.

Duff you have the same bedliner I had in my ram, if you look at the pic you posted under the bracket there is a space in the bedliner for a 2x6 to run from one side to the other. I had 8 pvc holders mounted to that and it worked perfect. Those slots in the bedliner are ideal for home made rod racks. Sorry no pics I sold the truck and gave it away!!

Project took a back seat as work has been pretty busy the last month.

Def a great idea. Mounting them to a board in the bed slots would double as a cargo organizer.

I made my rod holder from PVC. I angled the rod holders at a 45 degree angle for storage access, clearance and to clear my Fold-A-Cover. I can fit 11 rods in the bed of my Chevy Colorado. The only thing I would do different is to use a standard T in lieu of septic T's, the sweep of the septic T causes different sized rod butts to sit at differing angles.
