Question Musky In The D & R Canal???

I'm curious to know if anyone has ever caught, seen or heard of anyone catching a musky from the canal. I talked to Craig at Fish and Game and he said they've been tossing tigers and more recently true strains into what he referred to as the "10 Mile Strech" for close to 20 years, but I've yet to hear of one being pulled from there. He said this stretch goes over the Somerset/Mercer border, so I'd guess there's gotta be musky from Zarepath up past Carnegie Lake, but I've never heard of one being caught. Not looking for spots or anything, just curious to know if anyone has credible info of musky being caught in the canal. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Yes, there are musky in the canal. I have only seen them (and hooked one) in the somerset county area.....but that's the only part of the canal I really ever fished. This was probably 15-20 years ago.

Most people don't have the proper tackle to pull in a Musky when they hook one there. I saw a guy fight one last year in the Feeder Canal for over an hour before it snapped the line. I caught a couple of small ones. about 9" on spinners in the feeder this year. BTW I hear they like to eat trout.

There was a small bait and tackle shop twenty years ago in South Bound Brook, N.J. that use to purchase and stock pike and muskys in the canal on a yearly basis. They use to have a fishing contest. Some of their past stockings use to show up to be weighed.

Doug,

That's fantastic info. I appreciate it. I do know the state was stocking tigers in there and have since started rearing only true strains possibly because of poor survival rates of the tigers. In any event, there has to be a few big musky in the 10-mile stretch. I'm going to find one.
