Talking Friday night Slobs! 9/27

Hit the river after work Friday evening! I have never seen the Raritan as low as it is right now. Lots of debris in the water as well, floating grass, leaves etc. etc. it’s not full of leaves yet but will be very soon. Started off throwing plugs and the action was slow til about 7:45 pm when this beastly 20 inch Smallie crushed my plug. Really fat, strong fish! Put up an intense fight and went airborne 3 times in between peeling drag. Absolutely beautiful colors on this river specimen. Kept casting for the next 15 minutes and got completely destroyed at approximately 8 pm. Ahhhhhhhh, but this time there’s very familiar head shakes, and there very powerful head shakes. Turn the headlamp on to reveal a massive Walleye with a head almost as big as mine, LOL! Worked her into the shallows and was very impressed with her size. So impressed that I had to break out the tape measure. This massive female Walleye taped out at 29 inches. I did not get a weight on her but if she eats well the next 2 months she’ll definitely be over 10 pounds. Unfortunately there seems to be a lack of bait in the water this year. Very strange for this river at this time of year. The action slowed after I released this BEAST. Switched over to the magical Keitech’s and found some 10-16 inch Stripers to play with. Fun on light tackle. Kind of surprised to see them hanging out in such shallow water. Awesome couple hours on the river with a pretty cool river slam to show for my efforts. TIGHT LINEZ!!!

WOW now that's some quality RIVER SLOBS. Way to go Ed. Two trophy fish and some stripes to go along.

I too noticed less baitfish, I was thinking it was due to less weed growth this year. Either way i havent seen any skinny fish, and it seems everyone is reporting better results from the raritan this year. Maybe the big fish are working harder and taking lures with the shortage of baitfish

Nice fish!! I have also noticed lack of bait, usual tons of fingerling shad swimming around by now. I live 10 min from the big D and I fish it a lot and these year seems like small mouth population is off. We always catch a bunch of beast smallies a night on live red breasts or rock bass targeting big cats, this year we only caught couple so far.
