Default SBR Claremont Stretch 6/29/15 & 6/30/15

Figured with the cooler weather the past couple days, I would give trout fishing another go.

Fished last evening from about 6:30 to sunset. No insect hatches but the wild trout were very active. Did not see or get hits from wandering club fish and/or stocked rainbow trout. Finally ended my brook trout slump. Water temp was 65 so no fish pictures, just quick C&R.

Came back this morning and fished for few hours. Water temp was 60 when I started. Fish were more picky and less active, but still managed to catch a couple. Biggest surprise was catching a brookie in ankle deep water.

I was wondering what people here have caught at the deep pool just below the Patriot's Path Bridge. Today all I could catch was a perch. Had some trout follow my lures there, but no hits. I have caught wild browns on the upstream side of the bridge.

Its your choice but I think your being a bit overly cautious about that 65F.

That bridge pool is tough as I find that - like most large pools - the larger the pool, the less likely trout will hit. The space & time they have to react to food allows them to be more selective as opposed to sitting in a current where they have to make a quicker decision. I target the fastest runs. Trout are there and they are most aggressive.

Buzzbaiter understood. My thermometer is reads 4 degrees low when I put it in a glass of ice water (reads 28). So those numbers I mentioned earlier are my thermometer reading plus 4. I plan on getting a thermometer soon, just haven't made to the shop yet.

I've found that, when it comes to deep pools, you have two main options. First, you can use a realistic-looking lure like a rapala, and work it slow along the bottom. Or, you can try an erratic lure like a jerkbait twitched fast to see if you can get a reaction strike. If that doesn't work, start turning over logs and look for some worms.

Thanks Lard. I actually caught the perch on a small single hook Brook Trout Rapala countdown. The lure is a lot brighter than the actual brookies in the stream this time of year.
