Default Fished the Rockaway River in Dover this morning

I know that this stretch is urban by Jersey trout standards, but man there is a lot of trash along the river. Is there someone I could talk to about organizing a cleanup?

Anyway, I had a good hour of fishing. The rainbow trout were very active this morning, and the water temp was 58. I think the overcast sky helped. Caught 3, and had one break my line (4 lb test). Are the Pequest rainbow trout jumping less when they are hooked than in the past or is it just me? They still put up a passionate fight though

Thumbs up Re: Fished the Rockaway River in Dover this morning

There are thousands of people you can talk to about doing a clean up. But, actually getting it organized and finding volunteers is the hard part.
Welcome to the urban side of trout fishing, nice fish btw.

I hear ya Andy. I'm not working right now so I have the time to put something together. Just not sure where to get started. Which local TU chapter is most connected to this river?

let us know if you get anything organized. I fish north of there and the pigs are just as bad. I have filled up the truck bed twice this year with garbage.

I used to fish that spot alot in my younger years, my cousin lived down the road and he got me into this great sport. I have seen many ppl actually swimming in the pool above there in the warmer months and any days its rly hot. I bet last weeks heatwave had them swimming too, and they leave ALL their garbage for joe schmoe to clean up

I have fished the Rockaway in the Dover area a few times since my original post last week. Still a lot of fish there. Not sure if it is because they stock a lot of fish or if it is because the river is overlooked for more pristine locations. I always see other fishermen when I go though.
