A couple times each week my 4 year old daughter asks to go see Pete at Atlantic b&t. Maybe it has something to do with the hot chocolate he makes her or donuts lol or maybe the many souvineers he has given her. I can't remember ever her asking to go see the manager at dicks or the person working the register at Walmart. For that reason I don't mind spending the extra couple singles for an item. I mean seriously were talking a couple bucks. A hand full of quarters. That shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I was going to say support your local tackle shops, they are the ones who all have quality tackle and fresh bait. I understand you are making a very long trip. Was going to suggest calling ahead to one of the many fine shops in the area and making arraingments til I saw the post above. What better service could you ask for.
As a side bar, when you have an opportunity, spend some time reading about the walmart family........................then perhaps you'll realize why many of us fishermen never step foot in that place!
Look up Sam the Sinkerman. Give him a call, place your order for sinkers. They will probably be at your door in a matter of a day or two.
Enjoy your trip, catch em' up. Post a report.
Steve

Nice solution. I understand and appreciate everyone’s stance. Wally World is my employer’s biggest PITA and largest competitor. This is true for any retailer that sells anything Wally carries. If you try to compete with Wally purely on price you will fail. Differentiation is the only way to compete with Wally World and it starts with customer service which includes product knowledge which Wally World does not offer and never will.

There's a walmart in brick on route 70 i believe. But to save maybe $5 tops im not sure it would be worth it. Also if you're bottom fishing I'd pick up spearing and mullet chartreuse gulp. Fluke and seabass are savages with that combo right now. Good luck.

Warning - - not all Shop-Rites have whole smelts. It would really suck if you grabbed them in your rush and found out on the boat that Smelts without their heads they are useless

Bill's offer from Jersey Hooker is the way to go. The sterling service that Rich W. and his staff provide are unmatched. Don't stare a gift-horse in the mouth

Guys, believe me, I have NO great love for wally world.. it seems like I have become seen as some sort of wretch that wants to put local shops out of business. thats not the case at all..
I just want to get some "non boat" bait , some proper sea bass/ling size hooks, and a few sinkers.. That stuff is not available here, and I have to get it on the way to the boat, which is sadly at a very early hour.. say between 4-5 am... Typically walmart is convenient and fast at those hours ..
I only get down a few times a year these days, but last year in 4 trips we spent probably $ 800 dollars on NJ head boats, a shark river rental boat one trip down, bait and tackle shops, gas and eateries.. Just last week we spent over $150 to rent a boat in the navesink, and buy bait, Gulp, a few rigs sinkers, some bottled water, and gas from Lyndhurst where I stayed with my brother for a night... I do now and always have patronized local shops, however sometimes convenience trumps everything else..
The reason I want to get bait at Shop Rite this trip down???.. I'll be brutally honest.. I don't want to spend $15 on a 1 lb box of squid that were the size of my index finger and a tiny bag of frozen spearing most of which were the size of grass shrimp.. Thats exactly what happened last week to my brother and I... It does work both ways, and I sometimes am of a mindset where I feel I have to try and find a better deal on better bait, at a better price. bob

What Bill said, and you'd even save time at that point, what's better than another hour of sleep before you head out!!! And free delivery, damn!! Wish you were by Shark River, I would even pay a premium for that, you may be on to something...
