Hey AndyS
Love your reports and vids. For a newbie like me they're very helpful to learn from.
I went out to lake Aeroflex yesterday and got a dozen of each. flathead, sinners, and herring. Wow do those herring look cool. I had problems with the herring, they kept dying on me after every cast? I hooked them through the lips, and drifted, I found that the sinners are much more resilient. Ended the day with 4 nice sized pikerels, one nice smallmouth and a perch. Hoping for some nice trout one of these days. keep those vids and reports coming please!
thanks
Ken

Hook the Herring just in front of the tail, use no weight and throw them out and let them swim keep your bail open. If you not using a spinning reel then someone else here will have to speak up. Do not reel them in, just let them swim for like 20 minutes or untill your line start peeling in a hurry!
You might also want to consider a portable aerator for the Herring.
As you have noticed they are fragile. Good luck!
