These are a little fuzzy. Focusing was a little tough while the breeze was moving them along on the surface. I watched as one was completely on its side after emerging upstream. It righted itself as its wings dried and became upright. That's when it dimpled the water as it prepared to liftoff. A puff of wind encouraged it to fly and fly it did. Others weren't so lucky.
And yes, I think the other pictures were of a red quill hendrickson. It was good to see the bugs starting to return. After the summer droughts and low water conditions, I was beginning to wonder what effects it would all have on the aquatic insect life. |
